Sometimes in life, you just need events to keep you moving. events to keep on happening to keep you alert of your surroundings...of your life's purposes...of yourself.i went to the YP 20th anniversary Rally this morning at NTUC Centre. Well...even though i am not a party member, i went to the event to see how things are being carried out....to have a first-hand experience how the dominant political party in Singapore works. to listen to what the new candidates have got to say...and to be among the first to get to know the party manifesto. It was a really interesting and exciting event. and i guessed...i didnt regret sleeping at 8pm last night to ease my fever...and wake up early attend the function in party white. and trust me. i m not a member. i m still a non-partisan individual in my own right. it was exciting and exuberating to meet up with the dominant political leaders upfront. the aura that they exude from them was tremendous...and i felt like...hmmm...who am i?? a small fry, still nineteen (turning twenty) of age...haha!yeah. i did feel like a small fry there. the new candidates spoke of new hopes and fresh aspirations for Singapore and i admire their willingness and passion to serve the community. like i once said...i would like to liken the dominant political party in Singapore to a large welfare service centre, whose people are most passionate and commited to serve the larger section of society. except for this one...it has political agendas.i am very attracted to what one of the new candidate has got to say, regarding his recent appointment to be a Member of Parliament. He shared with us that he was approached by PM Lee for many times. about more than ten times to be part of the party. he kept saying No. insisting that he had no political aspirations. time and by again he kindly refused the call. but now, he realised the need for him to serve the community. he said that he no longer want to play an almost meaningless role by critising policies by the sidelines. instead he wanted to be part of it, to serve and contribute what he can...for the betterment of Singapore. He went for a walkabout one day...and came across this makcik. The old makcik spoke highly of him...and wished him the best. that moment, touched him even more. to see that these people place their hopes on leaders like him...to make their lives a much better one, being Singaporeans. i don't know if ever my account of my humble experience attending the event or even the experience of the new candidate (that i just mentioned), would ever touch the hearts of you guys out there. actually, i admit that i am not doing him justice by relating his speech just like that. but i guess...i m really touched by it.i m touched by his speech. not because of his inclination to be a part of the political party. but more of his wilingness to serve the community and how he feels that it is his utmost responsibility to help where he can, to the best of his ability. i aspire to be like him. not to the extent of achieving to become a political identity...but more of to be selfless and go out there and extent my capabilities...my smiles and my sincerity. i have always felt that no matter what...my greatest joy is when i get to be philantropic...when i manage to help someone even the slightest bit and the person smiles for me (the most sincere way to say..."hey. i like that. thank you...").i always think i can help everybody (me and my idealistic ideals). though i come from a middle-income family...kind of stable...stable family background...i always have this intention to try and extend my help to the people from the low-income and troubled backgrounds. people may say that since i come from a rather sheltered background...there is no way i can ever place myself in their shoes. yeah..that may be true. but i would like to get to know them better...and help them my own way...well well well...yup! there is much more to life than...personal life...and yes! one more thing. treasure ur families guys. especially my friends out there and people who read my blog (like i have a fan club, liddat!). please dont spend too much time in school and outside. treasure your families. though at times...you may think that they are hindering you from achieving your dreams...but trust me. they are not. they are always praying for you... please try to make time for them... because...BELIEVE YOU ME...they are the ones, beside you, by you, around you...when you are in the worst of your life's moments...this is from me. first-hand experience.
