nope. i am not crazy. to spend just an hour each day to blog and not mug. haha! but i find it essential to speak before i bury myself in the lights of Jane Eyre and the Irish ramblings of James Joyce. The problem with citizens living in a country with rich national history is this...they are always fighting for originality, for a sense of independence and loyalty. which is not wrong....considering the fact that the World is now conjuring a new Vocab called GLOCALISATION. 'to be local in the global world'. haha! like HSBC...your local global bank....something like that. i want to talk about the Community Leaders' Forum that i went to last Saturday at Sheraton Towers. yeah yeah...stop saying that i am a staunch follower of the PAP because certainly, trust me....politics is just an interesting subject to talk about and something which is certainly exciting to follow through. in addition to that,if i were to become a politician, my country will crumble because i am Pro-welfare state...which means that i'll provide money and free health services to all men and women on the roads and my country will crumble to poverty. haha! anyway....in short, i'll stick to being a teacher. and maybe... a counsellor. at least. i do not need to deal with money, except my students' school fees. *winks*anyway, yup. i would say that the experience was a bewildering one. especially since it is the first time it allows leaders of tertiary institutions to attend. deeply honoured as i am, i wished they had opened more spaces. i would like to bring along some of my exco members, whom i think can benefit from the session. it was a close-door affair. Dr Yaacob laid out the community plans for next year, featuring about 7 new partners. gosh. how i wish that PBMUKS would be one of those partners in the future. not to shine ourselves in the national light, but because i think that undergraduates have a role to play and have much to give. i dunno...sometimes i feel that we ask for what is there for us...MORE times than what we can GIVE to them. i can sense that the community leaders are really very passionate about their roles. they are not uneasy with the fact that they are THE community leaders. in fact, i think that they EMBRACE the fact and really work hard. one sensitive issue is the Shelter home @ Pertapis for Unwed pregnant mothers/women. the leaders do sense that a portion of the community may not be keen on the idea. but hey, it is better for them to be sheltered at Pertapis where they are looked after in the Islamic way. one thing for sure, we would not need the shelter home...if families of these unwed mothers receive these ladies back and accept them. i really do think that a good panacea for societal problems or community problems would be the creation of a LOVING, COMPASSIONATE and FORGIVING society. it is just the essential need of love. *idealistic.but true.serious.*the two female malay/muslim MPs...Halimah Yakob and Dr Fatimah...i like the way they carry themselves and their confidence level in presenting their views in the eyes of the many other leaders in the ballroom. Madam Halimah speaks of how we MUST feel optimistic about our community. because certainly, there have been improvements and all these should be celebrated. and of course. these Individuals must come forward. our community cannot keep harping on the stereotypes that stick to us like fungus. Dr Fatimah talks about rampant teenage pregnancy and how a majority of youths who have contracted STDs are our youths. the thing is, do not lose hope on them. the statistics can be frightening. but if we are optimistic, these challenges can be faced right in the eye. and as community leaders, we must be caring and aware. yup. just my two cents' worth because my Jane Eyre is winking at me in the eye for me to finish reading her. alright. i am seduced. haha! reading has always been the lifelong habit i'll always love.
