haha! friendster has never been something i would like to get myself involved in. i dunno. ok yes.i have a list of friends... and so? haha! maybe i was never really serious in learning how to use it properly. maybe i just want to be in the loop of friends but yeah i don't want to do the hard work and be bothered to find and link people up. i mean.. i really appreciate the frequent updates and occasional personal messages i received from people who would like to get to know me better... *yes. i have established GOOD friendships through friendster over the years!*but...yeah. i somehow prefer...blogging. Blogging is just more...meaningful in ten
thousand more ways.
talking about friendships, i have been watching a couple of DVDs the past few days. and one of them was Blood Diamond. i have this thing about almost-real-life movies. movies that showcase the realities of the other side of the world i am living on. civil wars are still raging very rampantly in the unfortunate continent of Africa. and yet the world is just merely ignorant. Blood diamonds are diamonds mined in war zones and sold to finance the conflicts. The killings by the rebels were absolutely atrocious, inhumane and heartless. if there is a word that can further finance or describe the situation more aptly, its something close to Hell. Africa is in a world of its own. u can remove it from the world map and no one would notice that it is missing. lives are just being wasted like rotten carcasses through civil wars. and AIDS. and famine.

and here we are in Singapore worrying about 7% GST hike. or that the buses are late. and that the town council aren't clearing the dustbins fast enough. and that we should build world-class OR other-worldly casinos and architecture and lifts on every floor and faster service at Macdonalds. talk about civic-mindedness. i think we should appreciate the fact that we are small. and sheltered. we do not go around shooting people down at orchard road or simpang bedok. we are cultured. cultured in a way that is so much different from people who are cultured in some countries in Africa. i think we should pray for them. pray that...things will work out for them.

they are humans too like us, aren't they?
they eat like us.
they drink like us.
they have sex like us.
they want to have children.
they want to have families.
they want independence.
they want freedom.
they want knowledge.
they want to run in the fields.
they want to laugh.

its funny how the world's attention is being DIRECTED or DICTATED by the western POWERS. COME on. admit it. they may USED to be the colonial masters. though they aren't anymore, they are still POWERFUL. we only pay attention to the things that the west pays attention to. the west flocks to IRAQ...and that is where we go. the west flags to North Korea, and you can find us there too.

we are just... never independent. are we?
